Research Interests
Our efforts in chemical education are underscored by a desire to develop the capacity and connections of K-21 (*includes K-12, post-secondary, and graduate) students, educators, and education systems, and to advance diversity and literacy in science through research, programs and pedagogical methods that provide all learners with meaningful experiences in the chemical sciences.

Outreach Activities
I am a co-Director/co-PI of two important department-level training programs that foster academic excellence and equal opportunity for students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, respectively: (1) a NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program "4Cs at UCSD" (chemreu.ucsd.edu/); and, (2) a DoEd-funded GAANN Program in the Chemical Sciences (http://www-chem.ucsd.edu/graduate-program/doctoral-program/gaann.html). I also serve as the Faculty Advisor to two student groups which aim to increase the participation and professional development of underrepresented groups in chemistry: our nationally recognized American Chemical Society undergraduate student chapter (ACCSA; http://acssa.ucsd.edu); and, our Society of Women in Graduate Studies in Chemistry and Biochemistry (SWIGS; http://swigs.ucsd.edu). Finally, I support the engagement of K-12 students and teachers in STEM education through various outreach and professional development programs, including the American Association of University (AAUW)-sponsored Tech Trek Program (http://aauw-techtrek.org/).
